BLAINE, Minn. – A two-goal night from
Emily Wiltse set the Bethel women's hockey team up for a narrow win over the College of St. Scholastica Saints, 2-1. The victory advances the Royals forward in their postseason bid and moves them to a record of 4-5-0 in the MIAC and 9-6-1 overall.
How It Happened:
• A strong first period by the Saints gave them the lead heading into the second after they managed to notch a goal at 15:37. Though the Royals led the Saints in shots, 12-11, they couldn't convert any opportunities in the first 20 minutes.
• Wiltse rallied the Royals to a response in the second period, winning the puck at center ice, skating into the offensive zone, and driving the puck over the CSS goaltender's left shoulder for a top shelf goal at 12:35.
• The Royals built on the momentum in the third period, dominating the Saints in shots on goal, 15-4. Wiltse earned the game-winner with just seven minutes left in regulation, cleaning up a rebounded shot from
Kallie Abrahamson right in front of the net to put the Royals up, 2-1.
• As the Royals' offense kept the pressure on in the Saints' end, the BU defense along with goaltender
Anna Hanson kept the Royal net locked up tightly for the remaining minutes, and the team walked away with a critical MIAC win.
What's Next:
The Royals will make the trip up to Duluth, Minn., tomorrow for the second game in the series against St. Scholastica. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. at the Mars Lakeview Arena.
