MINNEAPOLIS – The Bethel University men's hockey team surrendered a two-goal lead before skating to a 3-3 tie at Augsburg Saturday evening. The Royals would win the shootout to take the extra point in the MIAC standings.
Having earned four of the possible six points, the Royals sit tied for second in the league with 12 conference points. They are now 8-5-2 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play.
Augsburg opened up the scoring 5:30 into the game before
Jeremiah Konkel found the equalizer seven minutes later.
The Royals took the lead on Shaen Lavelle's fourth goal of the season 9:35 into the second. The lead went to 3-1 with a power play goal from
Joe Westlund as BU capitalized on its third man advantage of the period.
For the second night in a row, the Auggies staged a third-period comeback with two goals sending the game into a 3-on-3 overtime.
Both teams got two shots on frame but couldn't light up the lamp.
Austin Ryman was solid in the shoot making two stops while
Tyler Braccini and
Jack Brown connected on their chances in round two and three.

The Royals open a MIAC-series with St. Scholastica next Friday, Jan. 24 in Duluth. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
