The Bethel women's soccer team opened their season with a dominant victory over the DePauw University Tigers while competing in an invitational at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. The win gives the Royals a 1-0-0 record heading into their second matchup in the invitational against hosts Carthage College.
How It Happened:
- The Tigers managed to strike first with a well-placed corner kick at 12:35. The DePauw attacker's kick from the corner bent towards the back post of the Royal goal and hit the post before tumbling into the back of the net.
- But the Royals didn't let up on their attack, finding a way onto the scoreboard in the 30th minute when Hannah Kvant slotted the ball across to Malia Beilby, who fired from outside the 18-yard-box. The ball sailed in right beneath the crossbar to tie the game, 1-1.
- The Royals' momentum snowballed from there on when just minutes later, Hannah Kvant drilled a one-timer into the bottom right corner of the goal. 2-0, Royals.
- BU closed out the strong half with a third goal at 39:38 when, after a series of crisp passes, Kvant served up a dime of a cross that landed at the feet of Jessica Oliver on the right side of the 18-yard-box. Oliver took a touch around a defender and sent the ball rocketing into the back of the Tigers' net.
- Daniels added to the Royals' tally at 75:22, carrying the ball up the final third, taking a slick touch past the goalkeeper, and burying the ball in the back of the net.
- The Tigers attempted to answer back, but could only close the three-goal deficit by one, scoring at 89:41 after a corner kick that led to a tangle in front of the Royal net. Still, the Royals' substantial lead from earlier in the game sustained them, and they took home the win.
