Royals Extend Their Winning Streak to Five with Sweep in Morris

 
MORRIS, Minn. — The Bethel University volleyball team dropped just one set on their way to a two-game sweep over Buena Vista University and the University of Minnesota-Morris Saturday afternoon. The Royals swept the Beavers in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-17. In game two Bethel beat the Cougars 3-1 by scores of 25-22, 25-17, dropping the third set 25-22 before winning the fourth 25-17. Improving their record to 7-3 on the year.
 
Game one:
 
With the score tied 8-8 early in set one a 6-2 Royals run capped off with a kill from Peyton Howie gave Bethel a 14-10 lead. BU ended the set on a 9-2 run taking the opening set by a score of 25-16. 
 
The Royals fell behind 9-7 early in the second set, before taking a 13-12 lead on a pair of kills from Camille Renken and Eleanor Pelzel. From there Bethel went on a 8-2 run to open up a 21-15 advantage. Eleanor Pelzel came up with the kill to close out the set by a score of 25-22. 
 
Bethel opened up the third set by taking an 8-2 lead capped off by a kill from Ellie Van Namen. The Beavers clawed their way back into it taking a 10-9 lead, before the Royals went on a 9-3 run taking a 18-12 lead, winning the set 25-17 and the match 3-0. 
 
Grace Solberg tallied 11 kills and two assists, Ellie Van Namen collected six kills and 13 assists. Eleanor Pelzel racked up seven kills of her own as well.
 
Game two:
 
Bethel grabbed an early 8-5 lead over the Cougars in set one on a kill from Hannah Penke. Later pulling ahead 15-11 on a kill from Grace Solberg. With the game tied at 22 late the Royals went on a key 3-0 run to close out the set winning 25-22. 
 
With the Royals ahead 10-9 in the second, a 8-2 run opened up an 18-11 Bethel lead on a kill from Ellie Van Namen. The Royals dominated the second set with a .333 hitting percentage, limiting the Cougars to a 0.086 hitting percentage, Taking the set 25-17. 
 
After finding themselves down 7-4 early, a 5-1 run with a kill from Peyton Howie gave the Royals a 9-8 advantage. A Brenna Stark kill pulled the Royals to within one late, but Bethel dropped the set by a score of 25-22.
 
BU fell behind 6-3 early in set one, before a 10-1 run opened up a 13-7 lead for the Royals. Bethel closed out the set with a 7-1 run to take it by a score of 25-17, winning the game 3-1.
 
Hannah Penke tallied 16 kills and two assists with Grace Solberg earning 11 kills. Brenna Stark racked up four kills and 26 assists, Ellie Van Name had five kills and 16 assists of her own.

The Royals look to extend their winning streak to six in their home and MIAC opener on Wednesday Sept. 25 against St.Olaf, first serve is set for 7 p.m. in the Robertson Center Gym.
