Royals Close Out Iowa Trip with Win Over Vikings

DECORAH, Iowa — The Bethel University volleyball team ended their trip to Iowa on a high note with a 3-0 win over Bethany Lutheran College extending their winning streak to three games. The Royals earned the three set sweep by scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-21, their record now sits at 5-3 on the year. 
 
First set: 
 
The Royals grabbed an early 7-1 advantage in the first set, capped off with a kill by Grace Solberg. The Vikings narrowed the gap to 15-11, before a 8-1 Bethel run opened up a 23-11 advantage. A kill from Peyton Howie closed out set one for the Royals,hn claiming the opening set by a score of 25-14. 
 
Bethel's defense dominated, limiting the Vikings to a -0.036 hitting percentage, while the Royals put up a 0.444 hitting percentage of their own. 
 
Second set:
 
Bethel found themselves down 9-4 early in the second set, trading blows with the Vikings before a pair of kills from Camille Renken tied the game at 19. Bethany once again reclaimed the lead with a pair of kills to make it 21-19, but a 6-1 Royals run followed claiming the second set by a score of 25-22. 
 
Third set:
 
Three consecutive kills from Hannah Penke opened up an early 10-5 lead for the Royals in set three. Bethany later tied the game at 19 after an 8-3 run. A 6-2 Royals run to close it out gave them the third set by a score of 25-21, winning the game 3-0. 
 
Peyton Howie matched a career-high 14 kills in three sets with Brenna Stark providing 18 assists and Ellie Van Namen collecting 16 assists of her own. Camille Renken collected 9 kills and 3 assists as well. 
 
Up next:
 
The Royals hit the road once again next Saturday Sept.21 for a matchup with the University Minnesota-Morris, first serve is set for 11 a.m.
