Royals Earn Two Game Sweep in Iowa

DECORAH, Iowa — The Bethel University volleyball team earned a two game sweep Friday night in Decorah, Iowa. The Royals took down Northland College 3-0 in game one, by scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-15. Bethel earned another 3-0 victory in game two over Luther College, by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-14. Improving their record to 4-3 overall this season. 
 
Game One:
 
Bethel grabbed a 12-4 lead in the first set and never looked back, limiting the Lumberjacks to a -0.12 hitting percentage in the first set. The Royals closed out the set with a 9-2 run,taking the opening set 25-9 with 15 kills. 
 
BU continued to dominate in set two, with a 7-0 run to begin the set. Northland narrowed the gap to 8-4, before another 9-3 run gave the Royals a 17-7 lead with a pair of kills from Camille Renken. A pair of kills from Hannah Penken gave the Royals a 25-11 lead to close out the set. 
 
The Royals opened up another big lead in set three taking a 16-5 lead on a kill by Eleanor Pelzel. Bethel dominated on defense once again limiting Northland to a 0.0 hitting percentage to close out game one. Winning the third set 25-15 and the game 3-0. 
 
Sophie Jacques led the way in game one with 12 kills, Camille Renken had 8 kills and 2 assists. Ellie Van Namen racked up 22 assists in game one. 
 
Game Two:
 
The opening set of game two was tied early 4-4, before a 9-1 run gave the Royals a 13-5 lead. Luther cut the deficit to 18-15 before Bethel closed out the first set with a 7-1 run on a kill from Hannah Penke, taking set one 25-16. 
 
Set two was a back-and-forth battle early, with five lead changes. Bethel took a 14-11 advantage on a pair of kills from Hannah Penke, followed by an 11-2 run to close out set two with a 25-13 final score. 
 
Bethel opened up a 6-2 advantage to begin set three, with kills from Grace Solberg and Ellie Van Namen. The Royals' lead narrowed to 13-10, before a 6-1 run gave Bethel a 20-11 lead. Closing out the set and the game with a kill from Camille Renken, giving Bethel a 25-14 win in the third set and winning the game 3-0. 
 
Hannah Penke tallied 12 kills in game two and Peyton Howie racked up 11 kills of her own. Ellien Van Namen earned 6 kills and 5 assists against Luther and Ellie Van Namen managed 26 assists in game two.

The Royals hit the court again in Iowa Saturday afternoon, taking on Bethany Lutheran College at 12 p.m.
