The Bethel men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings, 2-0. The loss brings the Royals to a 1-1 record on the season as they look ahead to another weekend of non-conference play.
How It Happened:
- The tense first half saw the Royals control a large portion of the game as they posted eight shots. They also had numerous dangerous opportunities in front of the Vikings' net but were unable to convert those chances into goals.
- A well-executed thru-ball and temporary collapse in Bethel's back line allowed the Vikings to find their way onto the scoreboard at 14:28, and the Royals headed into the second half down 1-0.
- Unfortunately, the Vikings came out strong in the second half, putting up another goal at 48:09 and extending their lead and momentum.
- Bethany Lutheran's nine fouls in the second half gave the Royals numerous free kick opportunities, but despite their strong effort in the final 40 minutes, they couldn't capitalize on any chances in the final third.
What's Next:
The Royals will make the trek to Wheaton, Ill., next weekend for a series in which they will take on North Carolina Wesleyan University on Friday, Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m. and Wheaton College on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m..
