A late goal doomed the Bethel men's soccer team to another loss in a match against the North Carolina Wesleyan University Battling Bishops, 1-0. The Royals traveled to Wheaton, Ill., to join NCWU and several other teams in the Bob Baptista Invitational. The loss moves BU to a season record of 1-2-0.
How It Happened:
- The first half saw the two teams go toe-to-toe with each other as the Bishops only barely edged out the Royals in shots taken, 8-7. The 45 minutes were scoreless as each team grappled for an advantage in possession and scoring opportunities.
- Although Bethel brought the pressure hard in the second half, outshooting their opponents 11-6, NCWU was able to find the back of the Royal net after a corner kick and following scuffle in front of the net. BU goaltender Griffin Blokker was able to get a hand on the ball, but an attacker crashing the net managed to knock it over the line at 67:38.
- The Royals refused to let up after the Bishops' goal but were unable to convert any scoring opportunities into goals, ultimately falling to NCWU, 1-0.
What's Next:
The Royals have one more round of play at the invitational as they are set to take on host Wheaton College tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 7. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m..
