ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethel Royals are in 4th place after day 1 of the MIAC Outdoor Championships with 37 team points. St. Ben's leads with 60.33 points, St. Olaf is 2nd with 57.83 points, and Gustavus is 3rd with 49.83 points.
AnnaGrace Nelson became Bethel's first ever MIAC Champion in the heptathlon last week at the MIAC Heptathlon, scoring 4,264 points - a program record. Ellie Hernes was 6th with 3,815 points, and Hailey Scholten was 7th with 3,660 points. The Royals racked up 15 team points through those three athletes.
Annessa Ihde used a well timed kick to ensure a runner-up finish in the 1500m. Ihde ran a personal best time of 4:34.72, which ranks 37th on the Division III honor roll. Ihde also qualified for the finals of the 800m by winning her heat in 2:19.18.
The women's 4x800m relay team of Anna Cargill, Grace Robinson, Esther Nelson, and Ruby Gernandt took 4th place and earned 5 team points for the Royals, as they finished in 9:49.16.Â
Anna Speratos threw a program record in the hammer of 49.13m / 161'2" to take 5th place. Nora Wilhelm took 6th with a personal best throw of 48.94m / 160'6", giving Bethel 7 points in the hammer throw.
Wilhelm also took 8th place in the discus with a toss of 36.34m / 119'2".
AnnaGrace Nelson also scored in the high jump, taking 8th place by clearing 1.53m / 5'0".

Competition will begin on Saturday at Hamline at noon with the field events, and 1:30 pm with the running events.
