ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The No. 24th-ranked Bethel women's tennis team fell to a tough Carlton team, ranked No. 39 nationally, Saturday afternoon, 9-0. The loss snaps the Royals' program-best winning streak of 13 matches and moves them to 3-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Junior
Emma Thole fell down a set at fourth singles, but battled hard in the second, exchanging breaks until finally taking it 6-4. In the third set tiebreaker, she was unable to match her opponent's energy, quickly falling behind 0-9. She was able to come by a couple points before she was defeated 2-6, 6-4, 2-10
• After gaining a 3-0 lead, No. 1 doubles team
Lauryn Douglas and
Michaella Sullivan saw their opponents change strategy, causing them to come up short the next four consecutive games. They were able to gain one more to tie it 4-4, but couldn't keep up, ultimately losing 4-8.
• No. 3 singles player
Julia Baber exchanged breaks throughout her entire match, but was never able to get the critical points she needed to break back, falling in both sets 4-6, 4-6.
