Kostelecky, McKelvie Headline MIAC Men’s Hockey Postseason Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Sophomore forward Tyler Kostelecky made history for the Bethel University men's hockey program becoming the first-ever player named the MIAC Men's Hockey Offensive Player of the Year. Head coach Chris McKelvie was named the MIAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Royals to a second place finish in the conference, their best since 2007.
 
McKelvie, in his sixth season with the Royals, led the Royals to the program's best winning percentage with a .704 mark and an 18-6-3 overall record which tied the single-season wins record. McKelvie also guided the Royals to their first MIAC Championship game and home playoff game since 2007. BU finished the conference season with 11 wins, the most since 2007-09 and .750 winning percentage, the best since 2006-07. He's BU's fifth oerall Coach of the Year selection and first since Peter Aus in 2005. 
 
Joining Kostelecky on the All-MIAC squad is sophomore forward Tyler Braccini and sophomore defenseman Spencer Kring. Graduate student forward Justin Kelley and junior defenseman Dane Stoyanoff were both named to the All-MIAC Honorable Mention team.
 
Named to the MIAC All-Playoff team was sophomore forward Jack Brown and freshman forward Joe Westlund. Brown had the overtime game winner against St. Scholastica while Westlund assisted on that game winner and scores BU's lone goal in the championship game.
 
Tyler Kostelecky • So. • Forward • Maple Grove, Minn.
• Earns first All-MIAC honor.
• Second in the conference with 26 points on the year and 13 assists. Added 13 goals, with five of those being game winners, three coming in overtime and two shorthanded.
• He was plus-11 this year on ice and only took one penalty all season.
• In conference games he had a MIAC-leading nine goals to go along with seven assists that gave him 16 points, which was second in the conference. He had four game winning goals, three of which came in overtime.
• Against MIAC opponents he did not take a single penalty and was plus-six.
 
Tyler Braccini • So. • Forward • Hanover, Minn. (Buffalo)
• Earns first All-MIAC honor.
• Tallied 19 points on the year with 11 goals, which was third most in the MIAC, and eight assists.
• He was plus-seven for the year and took a team-leading 97 shots with a .113 shooting percentage.
• In conference games he had the second most goals among all skaters with eight. Added five assists to finish top 10 with 13 points. Was plus-five on ice.
 
Spencer Kring • Jr. Defense • Green Bay, Wis. (South Kent)
• Earns first All-MIAC honor.
• Had 19 blocked shots on the year and helped BU's netminders to a 2.07 goals against average.
• Had two goals, six assists for a total of eight points on the year while going plus-nine.
• In conference games, had five assists and two goals for seven points. Was plus-eight. Added 12 blocked shots and helped BU's goalies to a 2.28 goals against average.
 
Justin Kelley • Gr. • Forward • Maple Grove, Minn.
• Earns first All-MIAC Honorable Mention honor.
• Top 10 in MIAC with 21 points. Added four goals and 17 assists which was second in the league. Was a plus-11 on ice.
• In conference games, was second in the league with 12 assists while adding one goal for a total of 13 points. Was plus-nine on the ice including a game winning goal at Concordia.
 
Dane Stoyanoff • Jr. • Defense • Esko, Minn.
• Named to the All-MIAC Honorable Mention team for the second straight season.
• head a team-leading 34 blocked shots which also ranked fourth in the MIAC.
• Added seven assists and one goal for eight points on the year while going plus-13.
• In conference games, he had 18 blocked shots, tallied three assists and was plus-four on ice.
