The Royals had several national qualifying performances as they competed at Wartburg and UW-LaCrosse on Friday and Saturday.
AnnaGrace Nelson set a program record in the heptathlon, scoring 3,327 points, putting her 20th on the Division III honor roll - the final qualifying spot for the NCAA Division III Championships. Nelson ran 9.30 in the 60 meter hurdles, cleared 1.60m / 5'3" in the high jump, threw 9.65m / 31'8" in the shot put, jumped 5.26m / 17'3.25" in the long jump, and ran 2:37.24 in the 800m.
Annessa Ihde earned her way to the national championship meet by running a personal best in the 800m of 2:12.73. That time ranks her 11th in Division III.
The 4x400m relay team of Kelsie Sealock, Hailey Gregg, Abbie Swenson, and Shalom Sulungaine pulled off a victory with a stellar time of 3:52.31. That time ranks Bethel 5th in Division III.
On the men's side, Josh Sampson set a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles, running 8.06 seconds. Sampson is now ranked 13th in Division III.
Victor Lelinga ran a terrific 800m, taking 4th place in 1:54.59. That is the 3rd best time in program history, and a season best time by nearly 2.5 seconds.
Sam Gardeen became just the 5th Royal to clear 15 feet in the pole vault indoors. Gardeen took 9th place with a clearance of 4.58m / 15'0.25".
The Royals will compete next week at the NCAA Division III National Championships held in Virginia Beach, Virginia on March 8-9. The top-20 individuals and top-12 relays will be invited for a chance to earn All-American status and national titles. The official announcement of accepted entries will come on Sunday at 6:00PM.
