ST. PAUL, Minn. – With 10.3 seconds reaming, a tip in goal from
Emily Wiltse earned the Bethel University women's hockey team a 1-0 quarterfinal win over fourth-seeded Hamline, who also received votes in this week's Top 15 coaches' poll.
The fifth-seeded Royals are headed to the semifinals for the first time since 2018 and snapped a five-game losing skid to the Pipers.
Improving to 15-10-1, the Royals match the most wins in a season since 2014-15.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• With overtime looming and the final seconds ticking away,
Brynn Swenson won an offensive zone faceoff coming out of a timeout from Hamline.
Megan Johnson picked up the puck and sent it back to
Lindsey Muntifering. From the point, Muntifering ripped a quick shot with 10 second left in regulation where Wiltse at the front of the crease redirected it for the win.
• The first two periods yielded no goals for either team but a slight advantage for the Pipers, who posted 19 shots to the Royals' 13.
• BU goaltender
Anna Hanson kept the Royal net locked down with her fourth shutout of the year while collecting 30 saves.
