Women’s Hockey Takes No. 2 Gustavus to OT, Falls 2-1 in Semifinals

ST. PETER, Minn. – In a nail-biting semifinal matchup, the Bethel women's hockey team fell in the final minutes of overtime to top-seeded and No. 2-nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus, 2-1.

Bethel ends the season with a 15-11-1 overall record and a .574 winning percentage. The Royals captured the most wins and best winning percentage since 2015-16.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Though the Gusties shut out the Royals in both regular season matchups, Brynn Swenson got BU on the board first this time, scoring at 16:16 in the first period after skating the puck all the way down the ice to the Gustie goal from the Royals' defensive end.
• The Royals held the lead until the last four minutes of the third period when the Gusties were able to find an equalizing goal against BU goaltender, Anna Hanson, who racked up an astonishing 40 saves throughout the game.
• The teams headed into the 20-minute, 5-on-5 overtime period during which the Gusties put intense pressure on the Royals. Yet BU held their own for over sixteen minutes, managing two solid opportunities on net.
• The Gusties proved the accuracy of their No. 2 ranking, finally battling their way to a goal with just 3:45 left in the overtime period and ending the Royals' post-season.
