ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — Behind a 19-point night from
Elly Schmitz the Bethel University basketball team defeated Concordia College 63-50. The win moves the Royals to 2-0 in conference play and 5-1 overall.
Schmitz worked her way into the paint rolling it off the glass and in for a layup to make it a 6-0 Bethel lead early in the first.
Alli Born drove the lane and rolled one in as well to close out the opening quarter with a 13-12 Royals lead.
With the game tied at 15 in the second quarter,
Elly Schmitz sank a mid range jumper to give Bethel a 17-15 advantage. Followed by a
Colette Duininck defensive board and three ball to open a 22-15 lead.
Alli Born nailed a jumper from inside the paint to close out the half, with the Royals ahead 28-24.
Schmitz once again drove the lane and found the basket, opening up a five point lead. Macy Littlefield sank a three point attempt, followed by an
Anna Garfield layup to make it a 12 point game.
Colette Duininck hit from beyond-the-arc to open the fourth quarter giving the Royals a 44-34 lead.
Alli Born grabbed an offensive board, tipped it in and made it a 50-40 game. A late foul sent Schmitz to the charity stripe where she sank both attempts to close out a 19 point performance, where she went 9-for-10 from the free throw line. With the Royals going on to win 63-50.
The Royals now head down Snelling Avenue for a matchup with the Hamline Pipers on Saturday Dec.7. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
