BLAINE, Minn. – A late trio of goals pushed the No.15-ranked Hamline University Pipers past the Bethel women's hockey team, 4-1, in what had been a close game until the final period. The Royals' loss moved them to a record of 2-2-1 overall and 1-2-0 in MIAC play.
How It Happened:
• The Pipers were the first to get on the board, jumping out to an early lead at 7:16 in the first period.
•
Kallie Abrahamson tied the game up with a goal of her own, scoring shorthanded at 17:11 after stealing the puck from a Piper attacker in the Royals' defensive zone, skating it the length of the ice, and slotting it between the goaltender's legs. The teams headed into the second period tied at 1-1.
• But the second period was a show of Piper dominance as they outshot the Royals 12-3. Still, BU netminder
Anna Hanson made a dozen key saves to keep the teams deadlocked at ones all around.
• The Pipers proved worthy of their No. 15 ranking in the third period, though, hammering the Royals with three goals in under six minutes, scoring at 7:26, 11:11, and 12:11 to go up 4-1. The Royals managed eight shots on net but couldn't convert any opportunities to goals.
What's Next:
The Royals will venture into St. Paul for the second matchup in the Piper series tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. at the TRIA Rink.
