BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel women's hockey team edged out the No. 15-ranked Hamline Pipers, 2-1, vaulting ahead after securing the game-winning goal late in the game. The win moves the Royals to 2-2-0 in the MIAC and 3-2-1 overall.
How It Happened:
• Similarly to the last matchup between the teams, the Pipers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period, scoring at 18:06. The goal came after HU peppered BU defense goaltender Ashley Gustafson with 18 shots—a sizable offensive edge compared to the Royals' three shots on net.
• But the Royals fought back in the second period. Maddi O'Conner dished
Maddy Schuster the puck, and Schuster sped through the Pipers' zone, outskating three defenders and drilling a shot into the back of the net. With seventeen minutes to go in the second period, the Royals had tied up the match.
• The third period saw the two teams grapple for the lead until the game-winner came for the Royals just before the 17-minute mark.
Kallie Abrahamson – the lone goal-scorer in the previous game – snatched the puck from two Hamline attackers in the neutral zone, skated through the offensive zone, took the HU goalie to the left and flicked the puck into the right corner of the net.
• The Pipers tried to muster a response, but the Royals' defense held fast for the last three minutes, securing the BU victory.
What's Next:
The Royals travel to St. Cloud, Minn., on Dec. 6 for another MIAC matchup. They will take on the College of St. Benedict Bennies. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
