Solberg’s Big Night Leads Royals to Win Over Scots

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — Behind a 21 kill performance from Grace Solberg, the Bethel University volleyball team took down Macalester 3-0. The Royals came from behind to take set one 26-24, taking the second set 25-22 and closed out the match with a dominant 25-11 win in set three. The Royals improve to 12-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference. 
 
Set one: 
 
The Royals fell behind 14-7 early in set one, but a kill from Peyton Howie later in the set cut the Bethel deficit to two. Down by five a 6-2 Bethel run capped off with a kill from Grace Solberg tied the set at 23. Grace Solberg came up with two more kills to get the Royals to set point, with Bethel eventually taking the set 26-24. 
 
Set two:
 
Bethel grabbed an early 7-4 lead to begin set two on a kill from Ellie Van Namen. Macalester later tied the set at nine, the set was a back-and-forth battle from there. With the Scots holding a 20-19 lead, a pair of kills from Peyton Howie and Hannah Penke opened up a 22-20 Bethel lead late. Grace Solberg once again closed it out with a pair of kills and the Royals took set two 25-22. 
 
Set three: 
 
The third set saw the Royals grab an early 6-1 lead and never give it back. Pulling off an impressive 9-1 run that included four kills from Grace Solberg to open up a massive 12-3 advantage. Peyton Howie tacked on two kills of her own to give the Royals a 21-8 lead. Peyton Howie came up with another kill later on closing out the set for a dominant 25-11 final, taking the match 3-0. 
 
Grace Solberg led the way, tallying an impressive 21 kills, behind a .512 hitting percentage. Peyton Howie had 9 kills of her own, Brenna Stark and Ellie Van Namen each recorded 18 assists.

The Royals continue MIAC play as they head down to Northfield Friday for a matchup with Carleton College. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
