ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — The Bethel University volleyball team earned a three set sweep over the Concordia Cobbers Friday night. The Royals kept their unbeaten MIAC record alive by beating the Cobbers by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-23. The Royals are now 7-0 against conference opponents and 17-5 overall.
Set one:
Down early in the first set,
Peyton Howie came up with a kill to cut the Royals deficit to 7-5. Three consecutive
Brenna Stark aces gave the Royals a 9-7 lead. From there the Royals rolled with
Grace Solberg kill, starting a 9-2 Bethel run for a 21-11 lead. A
Sophie Jacques kill made it a set point and a Cobber attack error gave the Royals the opening set 25-11.
Set two:
Grace Solberg got the Royals started in the second set with a kill to make it a 3-2 Bethel lead.
Grace Solberg came up with another key kill to give the Royals a 10-8 advantage. A 7-0 Royals run capped off with a
Ellie Van Namen ace opened up a eight point Bethel lead.
Peyton Howie finished off a 5-0 Bethel run with a kill to make it 22-12,
Hannah Penke closed it out with a pair of kills to take the set 25-15.
Set three:
The Royals grabbed an early 4-1 lead to begin the third set on a kill from
Peyton Howie.
Hannah Penke helped build the Bethel lead with a kill to make it 10-6. With Bethel ahead 18-12, a 7-0 run put the Cobbers ahead 19-18. A
Ellie Van Namen kill and a Cobber attack error gave the Royals a 21-19 lead, closing out the set on a pair of
Peyton Howie kills, to win by a score of 25-23. Taking the match 3-0.
Peyton Howie racked up 15 kills and a .556 hitting percentage in the win,
Grace Solberg came up with 13 kills of her own and
Brenna Stark tallied 26 assists.
