ST.PAUL, Minn. — The Bethel University volleyball team continued their winning ways with a three set sweep on the road against the Hamline Pipers. The Royals won by scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 21-18. Improving their record to 14-4 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC.
Set one:
Bethel got off to a slow start in the opening set, falling behind 7-1, before an 11-1 run capped off with a
Grace Solberg kill made it 12-8 Royals. The Pipers pulled back to within two, but a 9-1 Bethel run opened up a 22-12 lead.
Grace Therrien finished off the opening set with an ace to give the Royals the set 25-13
Set two:
A
Brenna Stark kill gave the Royals an early 7-5 lead in the second set. Later with the score tied at 14, a 4-1 run gave Bethel an 18-15 advantage. Holding a slim one point lead the Royals closed out the set with three consecutive kills from
Hannah Penke,
Camille Renken and
Ellie Van Namen to take it 25-21.
Set three:
An early 8-2 run in the third set got the Royals roiling taking a 9-4 lead. With the Royals holding a slim one point lead a pair of
Grace Therrien aces opened an 18-13 BU advantage. The Royals finished strong, closing out the set on a 7-2 run with
Peyton Howie getting the final kill to win 25-18, taking the match 3-0.
Peyton Howie led the way for the Royals, tallying 13 kills in the win,
Brenna Stark collected 4 kills and 14 assists and
Ellie Van Namen had 3 kills and 12 assists.
Grace Therrien had an excellent defensive performance with 24 digs.
