Royals Ride Strong Start to Big Offensive Night in 79-50 Win Over Scots

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's basketball team once again rode its balanced offensive attack to a win over the Macalester College Scots, 79-50. The Royals jumped out to a 14-8 first quarter lead that they would not relinquish.
 
On the night nine different Royals found the score sheet en route to the 29-point victory improving their overall record to 12-8 and 10-5 in the MIAC. The sit third in the conference and improve their win streak to three games.
 
The Royals extended their lead to 10 on back-to-back threes from Colette Duininck making it 20-10 after one.
 
In the second, the Royals continued to build their lead to 29-14. A big block by Alli Born ended a 7-0 Macalester run, while an Elly Schmitz layup off the block by Born extended the Royals lead back to double digits.
 
An offensive put back by Emily Erickson before the horn pushed the Royal lead to 12 heading into the locker room up 35-23.  
 
The Royals picked up right where they left off as Duininck got a steal and a layup to start the third. She'd hit another 3-pointer on the next possession extending the lead even further to 40-25. The Royals took advantage of the Scots miscues going 6-of-7 from the free throw line in the third taking a 60-28 lead into the final quarter.
 
A layup form Lauren Johnson off a steal from Cally Peterson gave BU its largest lead of the night at 79-46 with 1:16 left to go.
 
The Royals shot 50 percent (29-of 58) on the night including 40 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Schmitz led the team with 16 points, going 8-for-8 from the free throw line and adding seven rebounds. Duininck racked up 13 points and five assists, knocking down three triples. Erickson scored eight points and led the team with 10 rebounds.
 
The Royals are back at the Robertson Center for a Saturday afternoon matchup with No. 6th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
