NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Royals women took 2nd place as a team as AnnaGrace Nelson set the program record in the pentathlon at the St. Olaf Invitational on Saturday.
AnnaGrace Nelson won the pentathlon in a school record point total of 3149 points - a total that ranks 7th in Division III. Nelson won the 60 meter hurdles, high jump, long jump, and 800m within the competition. She now has MIAC top 3 marks in 4 different events.
Kelsie Sealock continued her winning ways as she dominated the field in the 60m hurdles, with over a half second margin of victory. Her time of 8.75 seconds is the 2nd fastest in Division III this year.
Jireh Babalola won the 60m dash in a lifetime best 7.86 seconds edging out MIAC rival Kate Carlson from Gustavus by 0.11 seconds. Babalola's time ranks 2nd in the MIAC and 43rd in Division III this season.
Annessa Ihde ran away from the field as she debuted in the 1000m. Ihde ran 3:02.73 in a negative split, closing her final 200m in 32.5 seconds.
The team of Jessie Smith, Abbie Swenson, Ihde, Shalom Sulungaine won the 4x400m relay as Sulungaine pulled away from Bethel teammate Hailey Gregg in the final lap to win in 4:03.67.
The Royals earned big points in the 600m run from freshmen Shalom Sulungaine and Reanna Cruz. Sulungaine took 2nd in 1:38.83 and Cruz was 3rd in 1:39.34.
Raina Kaping had a season best of 3.35m / 10'11.25" to take 2nd place in the pole vault at the end of the day. That jump is the 2nd best in program history.
The Royals will compete next at UW-LaCrosse on Saturday, February 3rd.
