MOORHEAD, Minn. – A pair of shorthanded goals in the second period helped propel the Bethel men's hockey team to an emphatic 6-0 defeat of the Concordia Cobbers in the series finale Saturday afternoon.
The win was a drastic change-up from the previous night of play – which yielded a narrow shootout victory for the Royals – and brings them to a MIAC record of 6-2-2 and an overall record of 12-4-3. With a St. Scholastica loss at St. Olaf, Bethel sits atop the MIAC standings with 20 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bethel's
Justin Kelley wasted no time breaking onto the scoreboard, finding the back of the Cobber net just two minutes into the game off of an assist from
Braeden Bartoo.
•
Brett Morich increased the Royals' lead just a few minutes later, scoring his first collegiate goal at 5:26. The assist was again credited to Bartoo.
• BU flipped yesterday's statistics in the first period, outshooting the Cobbers 16-6 as the Royal defense and goaltender
Austin Ryman started the game with a strong showing.
• The second period yielded two shorthanded goals for the Royals. At 11:23,
Jake Herter dealt
Ben Doherty a perfect set-up for a flick into the Cobber net, and Bartoo outmaneuvered the goaltender for his own goal off of an assist from
Luke Posner at 19:28.
• Bethel kept up the scoring in the third period when
Tyler Braccini skated the puck up and targeted
Jack Brown with a pass that was then deflected by a Cobber defenseman into their own goal at 10:58.
•
Luke Anderson found the sixth and final BU goal at 12:01 when he cleaned up a pass across the front of the net from
Logan Anderson.
• Ryman and the BU defense kept the Cobbers from making their way onto the scoreboard and sealed the final score as 6-0, BU.
