ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team gave the No. 11th-ranked and unbeaten Carleton Knights everything they could handle despite falling 2-0. The loss drops Bethel to 3-3-0 and 1-2-0 in MIAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bethel had its chances only being outshot 12-0 by the Knights and an 8-7 margin for shots on frame.
• BU went without a corner kick in the second half despite four in the first half. Carleton took five.
• Both keepers were tested early having to each make a save in the opening 10 minutes.
• Carleton broke the scoreless stalemate in the 34th minute on a Bethel miscue. The Knights sent in a ball from beyond midfield that reached the top of the box. Out was
Juan Valdivia Cortes to coral it, but a BU defender instead got a head on it first sending it back towards the net as Carleton tracked it down scoring on the empty net.
• BU had a couple great opportunities in the second but couldn't capitalize with saves coming from the Knights' keeper.
• Carleton added an insurance goal with just over a minute to go in the match scoring on a rebound shot after an initial save by Valdivia Cortes, who finished with six saves.
