Wheaton, Ill. – The Bethel University volleyball team played in their first game of the Marilyn Scribner Invitational Friday night. The Royals beat the Cougars in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-13, 27-25. The win on Friday night improves their record to 3-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
• Royals dominated both side of the game in set one with a hitting percentage of .318 while holding Cougars to -.261
• BU's defense had three blocks, created 10 attacking errors and held CUC to four kills
• Bethel led the set from start to finish with zero ties
• BU's 7-2 run to start the set jump started the lead, only to be followed by 15-7 run to put the game out of reach.
Second Set
• Royals jumped out to a similar 7-1 lead out of the gate
• With the set at 12-9, BU went on a 13-5 run to win set two and take control of the game
• Bethel again suffocated the Cougars, holding them to a -.063 hitting percentage
Third Set
• The competitive third set saw eight ties and three lead changes
• Royals got pushed to the brink in set three, as they started in a 1-6 hole then going on a 7-2 run to tie the set at 8-8
• With the set tied at 10 a piece, CUC went on a 6-1 run to extend the lead 16-11
• Royals climbed back to tie the game at 20 by forcing back to back attacking errors
• Royals would go on to take set and match with a kill by
Brenna Stark, winning the set 27-25
