Royals Drop Five Set Non-Conference Match in Eau Claire

Eau Claire, Wis. – The Bethel University volleyball team played in a non-conference match verse UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday night. The Royals lost in five sets by scores of 17-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-22 and 4-15. The loss on Wednesday drops Bethel to 2-6 on the season.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
First Set
• BluGolds out hit Royals in set one with a hitting percentage of .256 to .103
• UWEC created more offense than BU, with 15 kills to the Royals 7
• The opening set had five ties but only 1 lead change as the Royals only lead was 1-0
• UW-Eau Claire finished the set going on a 8-2 run

Second Set
• Royals jumped out to a 2-1 lead, but never led again as there were only two ties
• With UWEC up 8-6, the BluGolds went on a 10-2 run to open the game up
• BluGolds dominated the set with their attacking pressure with a hitting percentage of .316 to the Royals .143
• UW-Eau Claire led in kills for the second set, more than doubling up the Royals; 16-7

Third Set
• Down 0-2, the Royals bounced back with a 25-17 win with wire to wire lead
• BU dominated the set early, taking an 8-1 lead out of the gate
• Bethel led with their defense, forcing 10 attacking errors along with 3 blocks and held UWEC to a hitting percentage of .132

Fourth Set
• Royals again controlled the set, as there were only two lead changes - at 2-3 UWEC and 4-3 BU
• BU dominated on offense, with a hitting percentage of .325 compared to a lowly .156 from UWEC
• With the set tied 3-3, BU went on a 9-3 run to blow the game open and maintain control of the set
• Royals led the set in kills for the first time in the match, 16-14

Fifth Set
• UWEC jumped out to a 7-2 early lead
• Royals would get to within three, at 4-7
• BluGolds finished the set and match on a 8-0 run

The Royals travel down to Wheaton, Illinois on Friday, September 15 where they take on Concordia University Chicago in the Marilyn Scribner Invitational at Wheaton College. Game starts at 7pm
