Royals Win 7 Events at Hamline

RESULTS

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Royals earned 7 event titles at Hamline's Meet of the UnSaintly on Friday, May 5th - the last tune up meet before hosting the MIAC Championships next weekend.

Sarah Stellmach ran a stellar 400m dash, winning the race by nearly 3 seconds. Her time of 56.11 seconds ranks 11th in Division III and is the 2nd fastest in program history. Bethel had two more athletes drop below the 60-second barrier as Hailey Gregg took 3rd in 59.47, and Makenna Brown was 4th in 59.65. 

Kelsie Sealock tore down the track on her way to a program record time of 13.74 in the 100m hurdles. That is the 2nd fastest time in Division III this year. AnnaGrace Nelson ran a season best time of 15.65 to take 4th place. Nelson also had a season best in the high jump, clearing 1.55m / 5'1" to take 2nd place. 

Ruby Gernandt pulled away from the field on the 2nd lap of the 800m run to win the race by over 4 seconds. Gernandt set a new personal best with her time of 2:21.99. 

Jessie Smith won the 400m hurdles, marking her first individual collegiate victory. Smith ran a personal best time of 1:08.24.

The Royals swept the top-3 spots in the javelin throw on Friday. Abbie Swenson led the way with a personal best throw of 34.30m / 112'6". Sealock was 2nd with 33.13m / 108'8" and Alexis Ellinghuysen was 3rd with a personal best 29.41m / 96'9". 

Freshman Nora Wilhelm won the discus throw with her toss of 39.03m / 128'1". Wilhelm also took 2nd place in the shot put with a throw of 12.46m / 40'10.5", and 5th in the hammer throw with a throw of 41.71m / 136'10". Molly Lukenbill took 4th in hammer with a toss of 41.97m / 137'8".

Jessica Lilland won the pole vault for the 2nd straight week. This week, she cleared 3.41m / 11'2.25" to take the victory. 

Jireh Babalola ran the 3rd fastest time in program history with a personal best time of 12.13 to take 2nd place. That time now sits as the 38th best in Division III this year. 

Next weekend, for the 1st time ever, the Royals will host the MIAC Outdoor Championships at Royal Stadium. The Championships begin Friday, May 12th at 2:00 PM and will continue on Saturday, May 13th beginning at noon.
