DAY 1 RESULTS
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel Royals are 5th place after day 1 of the MIAC Outdoor Championships, which are taking place at Royal Stadium. Bethel compiled 27 team points, a program record, and qualified a large number of athletes for the finals on Saturday.
Kelsie Sealock ran a historic time in the 100m hurdle prelims. Sealock ran 13.54 seconds, which stands the 3rd fastest in Division III all-time. Sealock also broke her own program record, and is the top time qualifier going into Saturday's final, which includes the Division III record holder, Birgen Nelson from Gustavus.Â
Bethel's biggest point scorer on day 1 was pole vaulter Jessica Lilland. Lilland took 2nd place and scored 8 points for the Royals with her clearance of 3.20m / 10'6".. After tying for 1st place, Lilland competed in a jump-off to crown the champion. Unfortunately, Lilland rolled her ankle in the jump off, forcing her to abandon the competition. Molly Nelson also scored a point, taking 8th place and clearing a personal best 2.85m / 9'4.25".
Freshman Nora Wilhelm earned 5 points for Bethel by taking 4th place in the shot put. Wilhelm's best throw was 12.45m / 40'10.25". The Royals also earned 5 points in the javelin throw. Abbie Swenson threw a lifetime best 34.62m / 113'7" to take 6th place, and Sealock took 7th with a throw of 33.36m / 109'5".
The distance crew picked up 8 more points on day 1. Annessa Ihde scored 4 points as she took 5th in the 1500m with a time of 4:43.07. The 4x800m relay team of Evie Hage, Anna Cargill, Esther Nelson, and Ruby Gernandt also took 5th place with their time of 9:47.21.
