ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Royals hosted the first-ever track and field meet on Bethel's campus on Saturday, April 15th!
"It was quite a special day to host the first ever outdoor track meet on our campus!" said an enthusiastic Coach Andrew Rock. "I think I speak for the whole team when I day that the difficult weather had no effect on how much joy we had to be competing on our home track! Our hearts were full with gratitude and we really performed extremely well!"
The Royals won 9 events including one in each event area: sprints, distance, relays, jumps, and throws.Â
The Royals swept both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Jireh Babalola, Kelsie Sealock, Makenna Brown, and Sarah Stellmach won as Stellmach chased down Gustavus' achor leg to win 47.94 to 48.02. That is the MIAC leading time and 17th fastest time in Division III this year. Sealock, Hailey Gregg, Annessa Ihde, and Brown won the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:58.23 which is the top time in the MIAC and the 11th fastest in Division III.
Annessa Ihde, Stellmach, and Babalola each won individual running events. Ihde won the 800m as she led from wire-to-wire, winning in 2:13.78. That is the top time in the MIAC and the 12th fastest in Division III this season. Stellmach won the 400m handily, crossing the finish line in 57.55. That is a MIAC leading time and the 18th best in Division III. Hailey Gregg was 2nd in a time of 59.22, and Morgan Dean was 4th in 1:01.03. Babalola won the 100m as she edged out Kate Carlson from Gustavus 12.53 to 12.56.
Sealock added another victory as she won the javelin competition with a toss of 36.23m / 118'10". Molly Lukenbill took 2nd place in the hammer throw with a personal record of 44.41m / 145'8". Nora Wilhelm took 3th in the shot put with a throw of 11.54m / 37'10.5" and Abbie Swenson was 3rd in the javelin throwing 32.29m / 105'11".
Glasha Hovey opened her outdoor season with a victory in the high jump. Hovey cleared a personal best 1.65m / 5'5". That is the top jump in the MIAC, the 2nd best in program history, and the 14th best leap in Division III this year.Â
Jessica Lilland took the win in the pole vault as she cleared 3.49m / 11'5.5".
Ellie Hernes won the triple jump with a leap of 11.23m / 36'10.25". AnnaGrace Nelson took 4th place with a jump of 10.73m / 35'2.5". Hermes also added a 4th place finish in the 100m hurdles, running 16.00 seconds.Â
"I'm really proud of our teams for their effort and how hard they competed!" said Rock.Â
The Royals continue competing next week at Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday, April 22nd.
