ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel Royals are in 1
st place with 71 team points after day 1 of the MIAC Indoor Championships. The Royals hold a narrow lead as the top 4 teams are within 10 points.
Bethel earned two event titles in the field events on Saturday. Freshman
Ellie Hernes came in clutch as she moved from 3
rd place into 1
st on her 6
th and final jump of the competition in a program record 11.70m / 38'4.5".
AnnaGrace Nelson added 3 points in the triple jump as she finished in 6
th place with a jump of 10.77m / 35'4". Hernes also took 6
th place in the 60m hurdles with her time of 9.44 seconds.
Jessica Lilland was the only pole vaulter to clear 3.40m / 11'1.75" before attempting national qualifying height of 3.75m / 12'3.5".
Bethel's throwers added 11 team points in the weight throw.
Molly Lukenbill was 4
th with a throw of 15.17 / 49'9.25",
Emma Roethler was 5
th in 14.77m / 48'5.5", and
Nora Wilhelm was 7
th in 14.22m / 46'8".
On the track,
Sarah Stellmach led Bethel with a victory in the 60m dash. Stellmach ran a program record 7.70 to win and is now ranked 20
th in Division III in the event.
Jireh Babalola added 5 points for the Royals with a 4
th place finish in 7.90 seconds.
Annessa Ihde earned 2
nd place in the 800m run as she stuck on the leader from start to finish. Ihde ran an indoor personal best 2:15.11, the 17
th best time in Division III, just 0.26 off the winner.
Bethel scored 10 team points in the 400m dash.
Mikayla Turek scored 5 points as she finished in 4
th place (1:00.22).
Morgan Dean scored 3 points with her 6
th place finish (1:01.54), and
Makenna Brown scored 2 points as she finished 7
th (1:01.64).
