BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel men's hockey team scored four unanswered goals in Saturday's contest to earn the win and take five of the six conference points over rival Saint John's. Bethel now owns a three-game winning streak over the Johnnies which hasn't been done since a five-game winning streak from 2008-2010.
The win moves the Royals record to 8-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the MIAC. With 12 conference points in six games played they sit tied atop the conference standings tied with undefeated St. Scholastica.
The Royals fell behind early when the Johnnies scored shorthanded just four minutes into the first. Bethel would head into the locker room with a 15-7 advantage in shots on goal however.
Midway through the second SJU scored again to put the Johnnies up 2-0 at the 9:37 mark of the period.
At the 16:25 mark the Royals would find themselves on the power play and cashed in seconds later on a wrist shot from the slot by
Jeremiah Konkel, scoring for the second straight night, and cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Later in the period the Royals found themselves down a man but a shorthanded breakaway goal from
Tyler Kostelecky tied it at two apiece.
In the third, BU scored the go-ahead goal just 4:22 in courtesy of defensemen
Matt Berezowski– his first of the season.
Tyler Braccini added the insurance goal with four minutes left in the game.
Bethel's penalty kill went 4-for-4 on the night. Allowing seven shots and picking up a shorthanded goal.
The Royals head to St. Louis Park next Saturday, Dec.9, for a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Recreation Outdoor Center for an outdoor non-conference battle with St. Olaf.
