ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. – After winning in overtime and taking a shootout earlier in the season against St. Olaf, the Bethel men's hockey team secured their first regulation win over the Oles in a non-conference outdoor matchup, 3-1. The win moves the Royals to 9-2-2 on the season as they head across the Atlantic for their European tour.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first period looked like it would be scoreless until
Andrew Revering fired things up for the Royals, ricocheting the puck off of the glass and to the stick of
Ben Doherty, who knocked it past the Ole goaltender for the first BU goal of the evening.
• A pair of penalties late in the second period against the Royals gave the Oles a 5-on-3 opportunity, during which they managed to sneak the puck past Royal netminder
Austin Ryman, who made 35 saves throughout the night.
• The score sat at ones all around heading into the third period, but the Oles entered the period with two penalties, and
Logan Anderson quickly shifted the momentum back in the Royals' favor as he capitalized on the 5-on-3, scoring just 18 seconds into play and setting BU up, 2-1.
• The Oles pulled their goaltender with two minutes left in the period to try to even the odds, but the Bethel defense and Ryman held down the fort.
Justin Kelley drilled home an empty-netter with one minute left to nail down the Royal victory, 3-1.
