ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel men's soccer team came to a draw in a non-conference match with the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings in a nail-biter largely decided in the late minutes of the game. The tie brings the Royals' record to 3-5-2.
How It Happened:
-
The stats were nearly even across the board in the first half, each team's offense yielded 6 shots.
-
Lucas C. Johnson set James Oberholtzer up to capitalize on an opportunity in front of the net in the 38th minute. Oberholtzer took a defender wide left before sneaking the ball past the keeper in a low ground shot to the far right hand corner.
-
The Vikings found the equalizing goal in the 58th minute, barely getting past BU goalkeeper Dylan Parkison.
-
BLC earned a second goal not quite 20 minutes later, knocking in a rebound off of Parkison's blocked shot, and took the lead for the first time.
-
But the Royals weren't done, and in the 82nd minute, Oberholtzer dribbled through and beat two defenders before taking the shot that would set the Royals equal to the Vikings once again, 2-2.
What's Next:
The Royals' have only a day off before they travel down to Saint Mary's University this Saturday, October 7, to take on the Cardinals in a MIAC match.
