ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team skated neck-and-neck with Saint Mary's but a pair of power play goals was the difference as the Cardinals handed Bethel a 2-1 overtime loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first period saw clean sheets for both squads, a 20-minute stretch that also saw no penalties call. The only difference was in the shot column that had SMU on top 17-10.
• For the second night in a row
Lexi DeBace tallied a goal putting the Royals on the board first 5:16 into the second. DeBace scored her fifth of the season scoring on a rebound shot from
Megan Johnson.
• SMU when on the game's first power play 6:32 in, and they only needed 55 seconds to score the game tying goal.
• Netminder
Anna Hanson continued to be lights out with some incredible saves tallying 39 through regulation. She would finish with a career-high 46 stops.
• Bethel took a tough interference penalty with 1:06 left in the game. That allowed SMU to start the overtime period with a 4-on-3 advantage.
• The Cardinals peppered Hanson who didn't let anything get past her. As BU's penalty was ending, they were whistled for to many on the ice as the BU player came out of the box and her replace skated on. A puck went right to her in front of the Royals' bench prompting another SMU power play.
• Hanson had made three saves, lost her stick, recovered it, made a standing save off the shoulder pad before SMU tapped in the rebound shot with a skater standing right on the glove side post.
