ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team picked up a curial three points in the MIAC standings with a 4-2 series opening victory over Saint Mary's inside Bethel University Arena.
The Royals improve to 10-9-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the MIAC standings where they sit thid with 18 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Royals got off to a quick start with
Sam Wilhite scoring 2:51 into the game with a strike right on the doorstep of the crease.
• Bethel's penalty kill, which ranks second-best in the nation, killed off a pair of first-period penalties while SMU did the same.
• Right out of the first break Dayne Stoyanoff made it 2-0 just 56 seconds into the second with his first goal of the season.
• Early scoring again for the Royals came in the form of
Spencer Kring's fifth goal of the year 3:38 into the third, which would eventually be the game winner.

Austin Ryman had made 18 stops before allowing his first goal of the night just over halfway through the third.
• SMU mad one last effort pulling its goalie with 2:36 to go.
Ben Ward put in the empty net goal nine seconds later.
