Royals Win Team Title at UWRF

RESULTS

RIVER FALLS, Wisc. - The Royals took home the team title at the UWRF Falcon Invite on Saturday, racking up 147 team points. Bethel athletes won 3 events and swept the podium places in the 400m and 5000m runs. 

Hannah Sankey edged out teammates Sarah Stellmach and Mikayla Turek in a Bethel dominated 400m run. Sankey won the race in 58.21, which is the 16th fastest in Division III this year. Stellmach was on her heels with a personal best time of 58.36, the 21st fastest in Division III. Turek ran a strong race to earn a lifetime best of 58.74, the 30th fastest in Division III. Bethel also earned a 5th place finish from Britta Nordberg as she ran 60.10. 

Raina Moorjani won the 5000m run as she led a Bethel sweep of the top 4 places in the race. Moorjani came away with a personal best 18:40.16, Josie Harms was 2nd in 18:59.22, Laura Hardwick was 3rd in 19:16.07, and Erika Swanson was 4th in 19:28.82.

In the 1500m run, Bethel took the 2nd and 3rd spots overall as Annessa Ihde and Grace Cole both ran season best times. Ihde's time of 4:50.90 was just 0.21 seconds behind the winner, while Cole ran an impressive 4:53.89. Ruby Gernandt ran a season best 2:24.91 to take 3rd place in the 800m run, while Malakai Holloway ran 2:25.63 for 4th place.

AnnaGrace Nelson won the high jump and took 2nd place in the 100m hurdles on Saturday. Nelson cleared 1.50m / 4'11", and raced to a time of 15.72 in the hurdles. Ally Stackhouse was 4th in the same 100m hurdle race with a collegiate best 16.80. Ella Eliason added to Bethel's point total in the jumps, as she took 5th place in the long jump with a personal best 5.06m / 16'7.25".

Emma Roethler added two 2nd place finishes for Bethel in the throwing events. Roethler threw a collegiate best 37.39m / 122'8" in the discus on her final throw of the day. That toss is the 8th best in program history. Roethler also took 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 12.17m / 39'11.25". Lexi Ellinghuysen and Molly Lukenbill also scored points for the Royals in the throws. Ellinghuysen was 4th in both the hammer throw (41.02m / 134'7") and javelin (27.42m / 89'11"), while Lukenbill was 5th in the hammer (40.26m / 132'1").

The Royals will take a week away from competition during Easter week. Bethel continues their outdoor season at Concordia St. Paul on Saturday, April 23rd.
