Women's 4x4 Puts up Season-Best Time, Iron Throws School Record at NCAA Qualifier

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Bethel University men's and women's track and field squad had one last chance to improve upon their marks this indoor season competing at the Last Chance Qualifier for the NCAA National Indoor Championships hosted by Wartburg College.
 
Qualifiers for the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be announced Sunday, March 6 at 6 p.m. CDT on NCAA.com. The championship event will be held March 11-12 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
RECORD PERFORMANCE
Senior thrower Gabe Irons just keeps getting better and better. With a first-place finish in the weight throw, he tossed record breaking mark for the second week in a row with a 18.64 (61' 2") on his sixth and final attempt. Following all events from across the nation on Saturday he sits eighth nationally.
 
SEASON BESTS
The women's 4x400m relay, made up of Hannah Sankey Sarah Stellmach, Mikayla Turek and Kelsie Sealock went up against some of the best at the qualifying event. A season-best times of 3:59.29 placed them fifth against a field that put four different squads in the top sixth. BU's relay sits ninth nationally.
 
Jacob Parent and Joel Smith fished third and fourth respectively crossing the finish line .01 seconds apart. Parent's 49.45 is 24th nationally with Smith's 49.46 sitting 25th.
 
Annessa Ihde captured a 13th place finish with a season-best 2:17.37 mark in the 800m.
 
Britta Nordberg improved on her 400m mark finishing ninth in a time of 59.69.
 
OTHER PERFORMANCES
David Myres qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles with an 8.48 mark. He bested that by .06 seconds finishing seventh overall with an 8.42.
 
Irons finished 10th in the shot put with a 14.11m.
 
The men's 4x400 relay of Joel Smith, Tyler Sealock, Lukas Walton and Jacob Parent finished 10th in a time of 3:21.25 ranking 29th nationally.
 
Jessica Lilland was looking to improve on her season-best 3.58m in the pole vault but came up short clearing 3.28. She had a chance at 3.73 but was successful on all three attempts.
 
Sadie Koelz finished 12th in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.13m.
