RESULTS
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Bethel Royals opened their 2022 outdoor season in the warmth of South Carolina last weekend. Bethel competed at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invite in Myrtle Beach, which featured 30 teams from NCAA Division I, II, III, and the NAIA.
Sarah Stellmach had a terrific meet, setting two lifetime best marks in the sprints. Stellmach, fresh off an All-American performance at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, ran a personal best of 12.29 in the 100m dash on Friday evening. She followed that up with a lifetime best in the 200m of 25.43 on Saturday. Both times rank as the 3rd best performance in program history.
AnnaGrace Nelson had a busy weekend, competing in three events. Nelson jumped a personal best of 11.23m / 36'10.25" in the triple jump that placed her 9th overall. That mark is the 3rd best in program history. Nelson also took 9th in the high jump with a clearance at 1.53m / 5'0.25" and was 15th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.66.
Mikayla Turek opened her outdoor season by taking 4th place in the 400m hurdles. Turek - who earned an All-American award for her performance in the 4x400m relay last week - ran 1:07.34. Erika Swanson took 4th place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:29.23. The 4x800m relay team of Ruby Gernandt, Annessa Ihde, Kaye Rysdahl, and Esther Nelson took 4th place with a time of 9:58.32.
Grace Perrenoud added to Bethel's success in the field events by jumping an outdoor personal best of 10.99m / 36'0.75" in the triple jump. That mark ranks Perrenoud 6th in program history and placed her 12th overall at the meet. Emma Roethler took 8th in the shot put with a heave of 12.57m / 41'3", which is an outdoor personal best and the 4th best toss in program history.
The Royals will continue training for their outdoor season back in Minnesota as classes resume this week. Bethel will compete next at Hamline University on Saturday, April 2nd.
