Lukas Walton – the 1
st ever Royal to compete in the combined events at the NCAA Championships – placed 9
th in the heptathlon with a score of 4881, just 5 points off his lifetime best. Walton ran the 60m hurdles in 8.74 (804 points), pole vaulted 3.90m / 12'9.5" (590 points), and won the 1000m in 2:41.57 (856 points). Walton was just 29 points away from 8
th place.
Gabe Irons earned 15
th place in the shot put. Irons – who competed in the weight throw on Friday – threw 14.65m / 48'0.75". Irons is the first Royal to compete in two throwing events at the NCAA Championships.
"These guys have had an outstanding indoor season and they have a lot to be proud of," said Head Coach
Andrew Rock. "They are the best of the best in their event and the way they represented Bethel all year was outstanding. To be in the national meet and perform extremely well is something that we are all really proud of them for."
