Royals Win 1st Ever MIAC Track & Field Title

RESULTS | DAY 1 RECAP

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – For the first time in program history, the Bethel Royals are MIAC Champions in track & field! Bethel scored 134.5 points to win the meet, 9 points ahead of 2nd place Gustavus.

"The gals set this goal of winning the conference many months back and they worked extremely hard for this opportunity," said Coach Andrew Rock. "It was such a close team battle and that puts a lot of pressure on each event, yet they didn't back down and saw each one of those events as an opportunity to reach a team goal. I give them a ton of credit, there was plenty of pressure, they knew it, and they really took that head on!"

EVENT CHAMPIONS

Bethel won both sprint relays on Saturday, taking the title in both the 4x200m and 4x400m relays. The team of Sarah Stellmach, Kelsie Sealock, Britta Nordberg, and Jireh Babalola won the 4x200 running from the slowest heat with a time of 1:45.44, just 0.34 seconds ahead of Gustavus. In a terrific back-and-forth battle, the team of Hannah Sankey, Nordberg, Mikayla Turek, and Sealock held off a strong Gustavus team again in the 4x400m relay. Bethel's time of 3:55.68 won the race by a mere 0.30 seconds.

"These moments are extremely hard to come by and so we just feel incredibly blessed for the memorable experience that this is for us all!" said Rock. "I told them afterwards that these four years of college track go by so far, yet they will have this memory forever! I'm so grateful, for the people that I care so deeply about, got this opportunity to come together as one team and accomplish winning a MIAC Championship together!"
