Hancock, Mich. – The Bethel University men's hockey team opened up the regular season with a substantial win against Finlandia University, 8-2. Senior forward
Jarrett Cammarata led the scoring with his first career hat trick and tallying half of the BU goals. It was the most goals scored by a Royal since Travis' Payne's four-goal performance on Jan. 16, 2016 versus Wisconsin-Superior.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• It didn't take long for BU to get on the board as
Jake Herter scored at the 4:05 mark Cammarata and
Ben Ward followed that up sending the Royals into the first intermission up 3-0.
• After Cammarata made it 4-0, Finlandia denied the Royals of a shutout with a power play goal in the second.
• The third featured even more scoring where Cammarata picked up a power play goal for the hat trick and then scoring again with under a minute left in the game.
• St. Thomas transfer and forward
Justin Kelley added back-to-back goals just over three minutes apart.
• BU outshot the Lions 38-17 for the night while the penalty kill was 4-for-5.
