ST. PAUL, Minn. – A five-goal first period for the Bethel University men's hockey team set the pace for a 7-3 victory over Hamline Saturday evening for the series sweep.
Two of Bethel's top forwards in
Luke Posner and
Jarrett Cammarata each tallied three points. Posner was BU's lone multi-goal scorer while Cammarata joined
Jack Bayless for two assists each.
The Royals wasted no time getting on the board as
Ben Doherty scored 1:21 into the contest. In the blink of an eye, BU went up 2-0 with a goal form
Sam Wilhite 43 seconds later.
Posner decided to get in on the action pushing it to 3-0 a minute and 21 seconds later. Things finally slowed down a bit before Cammarata lit up the lamp just over halfway in.
Hamline gone one back on the Royals at the 14:42 mark before the Royals gained it right back with Posner's second goal of the period at 17:39.
After an active opening period, neither team scored in the second where BU held Hamline to only four shots on goal.
Just under two minutes after Hamline tallied its lone power play goal making it 5-2 in the third,
Jory McWilliams tallied his third goal of the year while BU was on the man advantage. The Royals finished 1-for-5 on the power play.
Dylan Giorgio had BU's seventh goal with under seven minutes to go.
With a 12-6-1 record, the most wins now since 2007-08, and a 5-4-1 MIAC mark, the Royals turn their attention to a crucial MIAC series with St. Scholastica. Friday's series opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Bethel University Arena.
