Offensive Struggles Snap Royals Eight Game Winning Streak

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's basketball team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday evening at the hands of Hamline, 55-49.

A rough shooting night for the Royals where they went 32.3 percent (20-of-62) along with 26 turnovers slowed down the BU offense. On the defensive side of things, the Royals forced 24 Hamline turnovers while keeping the Pipers to 34 percent from the floor, Hamline's second lowest shooting percentage of the year.

Hayden Glander and Anna Garfield each led BU in scoring with 10 points each. Glander added 12 boards for her first career double-double of the season. Megan Boegel off the bench in 15 minutes of action contributed eight points.

A knock down from behind the arc by Makenna Pearson pulled BU within one while ending a scoring drought of just over 2:30. Bethel's defense ramped up holding the Pipers to one field goal over the final three minutes of the first quarter as the Royals trailed 14-13.

Courtney Nuest gave BU the lead with 2:56 left in the half before Hamline hit a three sending BU into the locker room trailing 28-25.

Neither team could find an offensive rhythm in the third quarter with the Royals being outscored 12-8. In the fourth, Bethel trailed by as many as seven before getting it back down to three with Kat Brown Erdal making the back end of a two shot foul.

Tough free throw shooting for the Royals (6-of-18) kept BU from breaking through as Hamline put it away on a layup off a turnover with under 30 seconds to play.

Bethel looks to bounce back Saturday traveling to Gustavus Adolphus at 1 p.m.
