BLAINE, Minn. – A back and forth series finale between the Bethel University men's hockey team and No. 4-ranked Augsburg Auggies went the way of the foes Saturday evening inside Bethel University Arena, 3-2.
A fast start saw Augsburg (15-2-0, 7-1-0 MIAC) strike 27 seconds into the contest. Exactly 2:30 later Bethel (9-6-1, 2-4-1 MIAC) evened it up as
Nick Ketola scored his second of the season. Ketola put in a rebound from the left faceoff circle after
Dane Stoyanoff fired one on net from the other side.
Jarrett Cammarata picked up his team-leading 12th assist of the year.
One more goal in the first for Augsburg at the 15:20 mark sent BU into the locker room trailing 2-1 while being narrowly outshot 12-11.
Cammarata tallied his fifth multi-point game of the year lighting up the lamp at the 12:29 mark of the second. Ketola brought it off the boards as BU kept it in the zone with Augsburg attempting to clear it. His pass went to
Luke Posner who found Cammarata in front of the net scoring through traffic.
Augsburg put in what would be the go-ahead goal and eventual game winner with just over four minutes left in the second.
The teams skated to a scoreless third while going toe-to-toe with 10 shots on frame each.
BU's special teams showed why they are the best in the nation forcing the Auggies to go 0-for-6 on the man advantage. Their 12 shots on the power play were all stopped by netminder
Ridge Gerads who finished with 34 saves.
Bethel returns to its home ice next Saturday, Jan. 22 hosting St. Olaf in a series finale that was rescheduled from December 10. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
