DULUTH, Minn. – The Bethel University men's basketball team erased an 18-point deficit before eventually falling in overtime at the College of St. Scholastica Monday evening, 74-73.
Â
With 10 seconds remaining and trailing by two,
Myles Coleman hit only the front end of a two-shot foul. Garnering the offensive rebound off the miss, BU would see four quick opportunities to put in the game-winning basket but couldn't get one to fall.
Â
Coleman finished with a career-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting while adding in seven boards.
Joey Kidder picked up his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, four of which came on the offensive end.
Â
Bethel trailed 59-41 with 8:28 remaining in the contest and that's when Coleman took over. He went on to score 13 of Bethel's next 17 points pulling them within one over the four-minute stretch.
Â
Kidder officially erased the 18-point deficit hitting one from behind the arc after forcing a jump ball on the other end that gave it back to the Royals.
Zach Doely hit a pair of free throws with just over a minute left giving BU its first lead since the 10:08 mark in the first half.
Â
The Royals got a defensive stop on the other end before coming up empty with under 30 seconds to go as Kidder's drive to the lane came up short with the shot clock winding down. St. Scholastica converted on the other end with 3.2 second left forcing the extra five minutes.
Â
Each team had their chances to put it away in overtime, but for the Royals it didn't bounce their way.
Â
BU never held a lead greater than five in the game. Despite hitting five of it six 3-pointers in the first half, the Saints seven were too much for the Royals who trailed 36-26 at the break.
Â
Bethel looks to bounce back Wednesday at home where they take on Carleton at 7 p.m.
