ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University football team returns to the newly renovated Royal Stadium Saturday afternoon for a showdown with 3-0 Gustavus Adolphus College. The Royals are ranked No. 16/17 in the polls while the Gusties are near the top of the receiving votes category in both polls. The two teams reside in opposite divisions within the
MIAC's new divisional format. BU is coming off a narrow 31-25 loss at No. 5/6 Saint John's last week while Gustavus defeated Concordia 36-21. The Gusties have had an impressive start to their season, also beating traditional power Wartburg 27-18 and hanging 80 points on Buena Vista in their season opening 80-58 win. The Royals had a pair of impressive victories in their first two non-conference games 59-7 at North Park and 28-7 over UW-Platteville in the home opener before the setback at SJU. Bethel has an 11-game winning streak against the Gusties dating back through the 2009 season. The last matchup was a thriller in St. Peter with the Royals making a defensive stand on a two-point conversion attempt with 17 seconds remaining to win 35-33 in 2019.
Kickoff is at 1 p.m. with a large homecoming crowd anticipated at Royal Stadium, gates open at 11 a.m. It is also the annual Tackle Cancer game this week as donations for the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund will be collected.
