ST. PAUL, Minn. – An early goal in the first half from
Rachel Waterman led the Bethel University women's soccer team to a victory on the road over Macalester, 1-0.
The Royals struck 14 minutes into the contest thanks to Waterman who scored her third goal of the season.
Hannah Hansen's pass nutmegged a Scots defender setting up Waterman for a shot 28 yards out. A strong strike tipped off the Macalester keeper's hands with the momentum carrying the ball across the line.
With shots dead even at nine a piece, BU's back line limited scoring chances off of Macalester's three corner kicks. Between the posts,
Izzy Smith collected four saves, three in the second half, earning her second shutout of the year.
Bethel is back in action Saturday, hosting the College of St. Scholastica starting at 3:30 p.m.
