Second Half Surge by Scots Tops Royals, 3-1

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A second half surge of goals got the best of the Bethel University men's soccer falling to Macalester on the road Tuesday evening, 3-1.

The stat sheet was even throughout the first half, most notably zeros in the scoring column through the first 45 minutes.

Macalester broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute playing a ball up from the middle third and past the Bethel backline. A centering pass allowed the Scots to fire from point-blank range four yards out and past a diving Colin Hupert.

The Scots made it 2-0 on a penalty kick opportunity in the 62nd minute.

Keegan Mellema put the Royals back in it with his second goal of the season in the 63rd minute. Braulio Tapia sailed it in from 25 yards towards the back post where Mellema headed it into the lower left part of the frame.

Macalester pushed the lead back to a pair scoring in the 84th minute on a shot just inside the box from the left side.

The Royals return to Ona Orth Athletic Complex Saturday at 12:30 p.m. hosting the College of St. Scholastica for the first time since 2004.
