ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Bethel University men's soccer team bested its newest conference opponent in St. Scholastica Saturday afternoon earning its first MIAC win of the season, 2-0.
Within 23 minutes the Royals were on the board thanks to Mattias Caspari's team-leading sixth goal of the season. An Issac Howell cross from the corner aided Caspari who headed it in from seven yards out.
BU extended its lead in the 44th minute, just seconds before the first horn sounded.
Erik Martens scored his first goal as a Royal on a breakaway pass from
Yeng Xiong where he beat the goalie one-on-one.
Although St. Scholastica had five corner kick opportunities and 21 shot attempts, Bethel's strong defensive performance held the opponent opponent in check for the 90 minute period.
Colin Hupert finished with six saves.
The Royals hit the road for a non-conference match Monday at Viterbo University.
