ST. PAUL, Minn. – Taking an early lead, the Bethel University women's soccer team couldn't hold off St. Catherine Saturday afternoon as a pair of second half goals from the opposition handed the Royals their first MIAC loss of the year.
BU capitalized on its first shot of the match in the 9th minute.
Kelsey Bergan received a ball at the top of the box from the left wing. Beating the SCU defender on her back, Bergan took a right footed shot just inside the box place it in the back of the net via the top shelf.
The Royals backline held strong while
Izzy Smith made nine of her career-high 16 saves in the first 45 minutes.
The Wildcats had a handful of early looks in the second before tying it up in the 53rd minute.
Bethel would have a minimal one shot in the second, which was saved by the SCU keeper.
St. Kate's took the lead in the 74th minute coming off a set piece before holding on defeating the Royals.
BU returns to the pitch Monday for a non-conference match at Loras.
